I had never made a cupcake before. Actually I rarely bake. And these were my first batch of cupcakes. According to the recipe, I would get 12-13 cups if I followed the amount of ingredients stated. However, THESE were what I get. Yes, only six of them. And the worst part was: They were burnt.
I don't know what I did wrong, I thought I followed every single instruction of the recipe yet they didn't turn out the way I expected. Honestly, I am not blaming the recipe sharer, she is an amazing cook, she can cook almost ANYTHING. Her blog is full of recipes with clear and simple instructions, and from the comments of some of her friends who also tried the recipe, they DID manage to make PERFECT cupcakes. So I guess I must have done something wrong in the process.
Anyway, failure makes perfect, so perfection is just around the corner :)

Since my first attempt of making cupcakes was a failure and due to my believe that failure always teaches us something, I tried to find out what went wrong to my cupcakes. I googled something like "Why my cupcakes burnt" and "How to avoid burning my cupcakes" etc, and the results were quite comforting. I was not the only one who produced burnt cupcakes after all. It happens ALL THE TIME :) Guess I should show my sisters all those "burned cupcakes experiences sharing" to stop them making fun of me. I think the wrong temperature of the oven was the main reason of my failure though.
After about half an hour of searching and exploring, SHOCKINGLY enough, I discovered those small burnt cakes were not "cupcakes" after all. They were muffins!!!
HERE is the differences between a cupcake and a muffin. In simple, a cupcake is a miniature cake often covered with icing and decorations while a muffin is a kind of bread, usually without toppings and easier to make ( Just mixing this and that then put them into the oven, job done. )
This is obviously a CUPCAKE.
These would be exactly how my "MUFFINS" looked like if they turned out perfectly.

Now that I know cupcakes ≠ muffins ( I still couldn't believe my ignorant ), I am keen to try again. Hopefully I can get the temperature right.

My second attempt at making chocolate muffins turned out really well. They weren't perfect but at the end of the day, I was definitely proud of the fact that I managed to make some "decent" muffins.
Ready to go in the oven.
Well-risen muffins.They look beautiful, aren't they? =)
Those almond chips don't taste as good as I imagine.
